Being Values Driven Isn’t Just Admirable, It Builds Resilience

Most of us will never be the wealthiest person in the room or the most ethical. So how do we choose what guides us and what goals to set?

One framework to explore is the idea of a values-driven life, where success is measured not by outcome, but by how closely we live in alignment with what matters most to us.

Drawing on cognitive dissonance theory, self-determination theory, and the work of Viktor Frankl, there's a compelling case that chasing wealth or fame at the expense of our core values quietly erodes our sense of meaning, autonomy, and resilience, whether or not we're aware of it happening.

That doesn't mean living by your values is easy. It can cost you financially, socially, and even psychologically when values compete with each other. But it may be the difference between a life that looks good externally and one that actually feels good internally.
